1. Introduction
In WorkPoint Automate, a "Connection" is a type of service account used for various purposes.
One purpose is to run System processes. At least one connection must be set up in order for system processes to run.
Another purpose for a connection is for executing individual action steps with elevated permissions. This means that administrators can define if one step should be executed using one connection, another step with another connection, and so on.
An example of the use of this could be if one step in a process, e.g., a “Change stage” step, for policy reasons requires elevated permissions. That step can then be executed using the connection or service account.
2. How to set up a connection
Connections are set up in the Process Builder in the WorkPoint 365 Administration:
- To set up a connection, click "Connections" in the top panel of the Process Builder.
This opens the "Connections" side panel:
- In the side panel, click the "here" link to authorize a new connection.
Next, you need to sign in as the user you wish to use as a connection:

- Use the Microsoft login form to log in as the user you wish to use as a connection.
Note that in most cases, it is a good idea to create a special account to use as a connection instead of using actual user accounts, e.g., an admin account.
Once you have successfully logged in as the target account, you should see the following message:

- With the connection set up, click "Close" to close the browser tab and return to the WorkPoint Process Builder:
- With the connection set up, click the "Refresh" button. The connection should now be displayed in the side panel:
The connection has now been successfully set up, and system process should now run when relevant WorkPoint events and conditions occur.
3. Executing a process step using a connection
To use a connection to execute a specific process step, follow these steps:
- In a WorkPoint Automate process, select the action step you want to execute using a connection.
- Go to the "Permissions" tab of the step.
- In the "Execute as" field, select a connection to use to execute this step.
An example is shown in the following image:
We can now save and publish/republish the process. The "Change stage" step will now be executed using the connection along with their permissions.
Note that only action steps, and not form steps, can be executed using a connection.
