1. Introduction
NOTE: Upgrading a WorkPoint 365 from classic to modern UI requires extensive knowledge of WorkPoint 365! This should only be performed by trained WorkPoint consultants!
For upgrading a WorkPoint 365 solution you require Office 365 tenant administrator privileges.
Follow the steps below.
2. Upgrade to Modern UI
2.1. Consent to the WorkPoint APIs
2.1.1. WorkPoint 365 Web API
To consent to WorkPoint 365 API, go to this link: https://api.workpoint365.com. Please be sure to use an account with global administrator privileges.
- On the "Access WorkPoint 365 Web API" page, type in the name of your tenant, here exemplified with "Contoso".
- Click the Sign-up button for the set of permissions you find appropriate (you can review which permissions are requested after the sign-in form after clicking the "Sign-up button).
Then complete the sign-in and grant the requested permissions.
2.1.2. Email Manager API (Optional)
If your solution uses Email Manager, you need to consent to the Email Manager API. You can do so by clicking this link: https://api.emailmanager.workpoint365.com.
- On the "Give EMM 365 consent to access your resources" page, click the "Sign-Up!" button.
Then complete the sign-in and grant the requested permissions.
2.2. Verify WorkPoint 365 version and installing Modern UI
In the left side menu of the WorkPoint administration, open the "Update" page:
- Verify that the current version of WorkPoint 365 is at least 3.0.0.0.
- If the current version is at least 3.0.0.0, click "Install Modern UI".
This opens the "Modern UI" page:
- Installing Modern UI installs the Modern UI application on all WorkPoint site collections for the current solution.
- The "Create a new modern page on Master sites" option activates the Site Pages Feature on master sites and adds a new empty site page on the master site.
- The "Overwrite Master site Default Page" option makes the new site page the Homepage for the Master Site.
- You can select a name for the newly created home page.
- The "Enable WorkPoint Modern UI" option enables Modern UI for all supported SharePoint sites and makes WorkPoint use a new legacy design for SharePoint sites not yet converted to New Experience. By deselecting this option and only installing Modern UI, you can start configuring your Modern UI solution and still have the users presented with the classic experience.
- When ready, click the "Submit Upgrade Job" button and wait for the job to finish. You can follow the progress in the list below, just click "Refresh" to update the status of the job.
After installing Modern UI, you need to approve pending API requests.
2.3. Approving pending API requests
The following steps require a user with Global administrator privileges, as well as the SharePoint administrator role.
Approving pending API requests is done from inside the SharePoint administration:
- In the SharePoint Administration, expand the "Advanced" option and select "API access".
- In the "API access" page, expand the "Pending request" group and approve all WorkPoint related API access requests.
2.4. Start configuring your Modern UI pages
For the following steps, please make sure that the Site Pages Feature is Activated on the root site and all master sites.
When Modern UI has been installed and enabled, and you have approved the WorkPoint API access requests, you can start configuring you Modern UI pages:
- In your WorkPoint solution, click the gear icon and select "Add a page".
You can now start to configure the page. The best way to find the WorkPoint webparts is to expand the Webpart selector and look for the webparts in the Other category. But any Modern Webpart can be used:
Use master site synchronization to push your changes to all entity sites. Please make sure that the Replicate features checkmark is set.
