1. Introduction
The Risk Matrix webpart is used to give a visual representation of the risks registered on entities, e.g. projects, cases, or contracts.
The Risk Matrix webpart is requires a risk list on the entity, from where to pull items to show. Risks are then represented in a matrix form with two choice fields on the x- and y-axis.
An example of a risk matrix webpart with risk entries can be seen in the following image:
The risk matrix in the image displays a 5 by 5 matrix using the "Severity"- and "Probability" fields from the risk list on the entity. The numbers in the matrix represents the number of risks with the corresponding severity/probability values. There is e.g. one risk with a severity value of 2 and a probability value of 3, and there are two risks with a severity value of 4 and a probability value of 3.
Clicking a field in the matrix which has any number of risks opens a list in which the user can inspect the risks with that severity/probability score.

3. Configuration
In the following example, we will set up a Risk Matrix webpart to show all risks registered on a Project entity in a Project Management solution. The list has already been filled with a set of risks to display in the webpart using the fields "Severity" and "Probability".
We start by editing the dashboard and adding the webpart on the entity dashboard:
- In the location on the dashboard where we want the webpart to be located, we click the "Add a new web part" button.
- To easily find the Risk Matrix in the list of webparts, we perform a search for e.g. "risk".
- We click the "WorkPoint 365 - Risk Matrix" webpart to add it to the page.
- When the webpart has been added, we click either the "Edit" button" or the "Configure web part" button.
This opens the configuration panel for the webpart:
We can now configure the webpart to our liking. We want it to be called "Risks" and display all items from the risk list on the project:
- In the "Title" field, we type in "Risks".
- For list to use in the webpart, we select the "Risks" list on the project.
- We need to provide a field from the list selected in pt. 6 to be used as a representation of the severity level of the risks. In this example, we have a specific field on the risk list called "Severity", which is the one we use here.
- As was the case in pt. 7, we also have a field called "Probability" on the Risks list, so we will use that to represent the probability score in the webpart.
Note that the fields used for "Severity" and "Probability" must be choice-fields and that they must have the same number of possible choices. This means that if the "Severity" field on the Risks list has 3 choices (e.g. 1, 2, and 3), so must the "Probability" field and vice versa.
Also note that even though the fields in the configuration panel are called "Severity" and "Probability", what will be shown in the webpart are the names of the fields used. If you e.g. use a field from the Risk list called "Impact" in the "Severity" field, the webpart will display "Impact" on the y-axis.
- In the view selector, we select the "All Items" view. We do this because we want to show all risks registered on the project in the matrix. If we wanted to e.g. only show open risks, we could select the "Open Risks" view, or we could select a custom view if we have specific risks we want to display.
- Additionally, there are a couple of display settings for the matrix. These configure some cosmetic aspects of the webpart, e.g. how do display the Severity label on the matrix. Displaying the label vertically (as in the image), conserves a bit of space the webpart takes up.
Additionally, the webpart automatically calculates the colors to be used in the matrix:
The webpart calculates the colors based on the number of fields to be colored, which in turn is given by the number of choice combinations given by the Severity/Probability fields. These colors can, however, be changed by clicking the color palette and selecting a new color. Alternatively you can type in a color hex code in the color field.
We can now republish the project dashboard page and view the webpart:

5. Notes
Note that the fields used for "Severity" and "Probability" must be choice-fields and that they must have the same number of possible choices. This means that if the "Severity" field on the Risks list has 3 choices (e.g. 1, 2, and 3), so must the "Probability" field have 3 choices and vice versa. If this rule is violated, the following error appears in the webpart:
