1. Introduction
The Multiple Stage Model per Business Module feature allows you to define multiple stage models for your business modules and utilize them in various ways.
An example of the use of multiple stage models could be using different stage models for different project types on a project management solution, or using different stage models based on project size.
2. End User Guide
Given a WorkPoint solution using multiple stage models on a business module, selecting a model to use can be done in various situations.
A stage model can be chosen when creating a new entity on the business module.
It can also be chosen when changing stage of an existing entity, given that transitioning between stage models is allowed per the configuration.
The following sections gives examples of the two situations.
Common for both of the examples is that the solution has two stage models set up for Projects on a Project Management solution, both with different stages and transitions; a model for Implementation projects, and a different model for Maintenance projects.
2.1. Choosing stage model on entity creation
By using the Create Entity wizard, we can create a new project:
- In this example, we click "All actions" in the My Tools panel to access the Create Entity wizard for projects.
- We click the "New" menu item.
- The "Create Project" button opens the Create Entity wizard for projects.
- In the Create Entity wizard, we can select which stage model to use. As the project being created is an Implementation project, we select the "Implementation" stage model. Alternatively, we could select "Maintenance" if the project was a maintenance project, as shown in the following image:
- If the stage model select ed have multiple start stages to choose from, the one to use can be selected in the "Stage" field. In this example, we have the following options:
- In this example, we can start our Implementation project in either the "Idea" or the "Analysis" stage. For this project, we select the "Idea" stage.
- We can now click the "Save" button to create the project.
The project is now created, and the stage model can be viewed on the entity site:
2.2. Choosing stage model on stage change
If switching between stage models is allowed, you can select a different stage model to use when switching stage for an entity.
In this continuation of the previous example, we have a project which uses the "Implementation" stage model. We can now change the stage of this entity:
- In the My Tools panel on the entity site, we click the "Change Stage" button.
- In the "Choose Project Type" field, we can select which stage model to use. Note that the "Project Type" label could read differently, depending on the field chosen as mapping value in the Stage settings. In this example, we have used a field called "Project Type" to differentiate between which stage model to use, but an alternative could be to use a field called "Project Size" if the stage model to use should be dependent on the size of projects. In that case, this field in the wizard would be called "Choose Project Size". At this moment, the entity is using the "Implementation" stage mode, but here we select the "Maintenance"model instead.
- Next, we select which stage from the new stage model to transition to.
- We then click the "Change stage" button to change the stage of the entity.
- We now get the opportunity to change the entity's meta data before changing the stage. In this example, we change the title of the project to "Office 365 Maintenance".
- We then click the "Save" button to save the settings and change the stage.
