The "Send e-mail" step can be used to send e-mails at some point during a process.
A use case for this step could sending an e-mail to a project manager when all tasks on a project have been completed, letting them know that the project is ready to proceed to the next stage in it's life cycle.
Another use case could be to send an e-mail to a case- or project team if any changes to case or project meta data happens, alerting them of the changes.
