1. Introduction
This guide describes the process of installing WorkPoint 365. The installation process is automated to reduce manual configuration and streamline the deployment of new WorkPoint solutions.
The installation consists of three main phases:
Terms of Service: Accepting the legal agreement.
Deployment: Granting necessary consents and deploying the WorkPoint 365 Modern UI SPFx package to the tenant.
Solution Creation: Configuring and creating a specific WorkPoint 365 solution (e.g., Case Management or Project Management).
2. Prerequisites
Before beginning, ensure the following requirements are met:
- License: A valid WorkPoint 365 license key.
- App Catalog: A SharePoint App Catalog must exist on the tenant. If retention policies are active, the App Catalog must be excluded.
- Permissions: The user account performing the installation must be a Global Administrator and a Site Collection Administrator on the tenant App Catalog to grant the necessary consents and deploy the package.
3. Accessing the Installer
Navigate to the WorkPoint 365 installer: https://install.workpoint365.com.
- Click Run WorkPoint Installation wizard.
Sign in using your Microsoft 365 Global Administrator credentials.
- To proceed, read the required permissions and click "Accept".
The permissions granted in step 2 are used by WorkPoint to identify which tenant context the installer needs to run in.
4. Terms of Service
Upon first access, you must accept the WorkPoint A/S Terms of Service to proceed.
- Review the General Terms and Conditions and click I Agree.
5. Installing the WorkPoint 365 Modern UI SPFx
This section covers the deployment of the WorkPoint 365 Modern UI SPFx package to the tenant app catalog. This package enables the WorkPoint interface and core functionality within SharePoint Modern.
Important Note on Permissions
To verify if the WorkPoint 365 solution is already installed, the user must have Application.Read and Read permissions on the Tenant App Catalog. Without these permissions, the interface may incorrectly indicate that the package is not yet deployed to the tenant.
- To begin the deployment, locate the "Install WorkPoint 365 App" section and click Install.
- The next step is to read through which permissions is required for the WorkPoint 365 Enterprise Application. Review the list under the 'This app would like to' section to understand the specific access rights required by the WorkPoint 365 Enterprise Application.
- When you have reviewed the requested permissions, click the Continue button to proceed to the next step.
Job Permissions (Site Creation) The installer will ask for permission to create sites on your behalf.
- Select "Yes, I'm happy for WorkPoint to create sites for us when needed (Recommended)".
Note: Selecting "No" requires you to develop custom automation for site creation.
- Click Authorize to proceed.
Confirm Identity
- If prompted, select your current Global Administrator account to confirm your identity.
Final Consent
A final Microsoft permission dialog will appear, summarizing the scope of access based on your previous selections.
- Click Accept to finalize the consent.
Deploy Package
You will see a confirmation that all permissions have been granted.
- Click Install App to deploy the SPFx package to the Tenant App Catalog
If the installation fails at this point, please ensure that an Tenant App Catalog site exists in SharePoint.
The installer will now automatically grant the selected consents and deploy the WorkPoint 365 Modern UI package to the Tenant App Catalog. You can track the progress of these steps on the screen.
Once the installation is complete, the installer should display the following page:
Completion
Once the deployment is finished, the screen will display "WorkPoint app installation completed".
- (Optional) Click Download installation documentation for a log of the process.
- Click Return to go back to the main menu.
The WorkPoint 365 Modern UI SPFx is now deployed, and the "Create a new Solution" step is unlocked.
6. Creating a new WorkPoint 365 solution
This section describes how to use the WorkPoint 365 installer to create a new WorkPoint 365 solution.
Prerequisites
- Role Requirement: The user must hold the SharePoint Administrator role to add new solutions.
- Installation Status: This section assumes that the WorkPoint 365 Modern UI SPFx package has been successfully deployed to the tenant app catalog, as described in Section 5.
To create a new WorkPoint 365 solution, follow these steps:
- In the "Solutions" section of the wizard, click the Add solution button.
Next, you need to select which WorkPoint 365 subscription to use for the new WorkPoint 365 solution:
6.1. Subscription and Template
- Input your license key and click Add.
- After entering your license key, the installer displays all available subscriptions associated with it.
- You can expand each subscription entry to review the specific features it includes
- If the desired subscription is not listed, you can add additional subscriptions by entering other license keys.
- To choose the subscription for your new WorkPoint 365 solution, click the Select button.
- The selected subscription is framed in orange.
- To proceed to the next step in the installer, click the Continue button.
- Next, you can select to create an empty solution, or create a solution based on a solution template. For now, the only available template is the "Empty (Modern UI)" template.
- To proceed, we click the Continue button.
- In the What is included step, you can view more details about what is included in the solution type you selected.
- To proceed, click the Continue button.
This proceeds to the Solution Info step. Here, you specify the SharePoint site where the WorkPoint 365 solution will be installed.
6.1.1. Using an existing site
Choosing to use an existing site for WorkPoint 365 requires you to fill the following form:
- Type in the e-mail address of the person who should receive an e-mail when the WorkPoint 365 solution has finished installation.
- Type in site URL of the SharePoint site on which you want to add a WorkPoint 365 solution.
- To proceed, click the "Continue" button.
6.1.2. Creating a new site
Choosing to use an existing site for WorkPoint 365 requires you to fill the following form:
- Type in the e-mail address of the person who should receive an e-mail when the WorkPoint 365 solution has finished installation.
- Type in a site title. This title will automatically fill in the Solution URL field as well, putting the site title as a suffix after /sites/ in the URL. The installer will inform you if the site in unavailable, otherwise it should display The site address is available, as shown in the image.
- Next, select a user from the Azure Active Directory to be the primary administrator of the WorkPoint solution.
- Lastly, select a language and timezone for the WorkPoint solution.
- To proceed, click the Continue button.
6.2. Selecting a Solution Owner
This section describes how to select a solution owner for the WorkPoint 365 solution:
The option selected for using an existing contact or creating a new one changes the additional options on this step.
6.2.1. Choosing an existing contact
Selecting Choose an already existing contact allows you to select a contact from your chosen license key provided in the first step of the installation wizard (not the Azure AD):
- Search for and select a person to be the Solution Owner.
- To proceed, click the Continue button.
Note, both the person set in the "Solution Info" step and the solution owner will receive an e-mail once the provisioning of the WorkPoint 365 solution is completed.
6.2.2. Creating a new contact
Selecting I'll provide the solution owner information allows you to fill the following form to create a new contact on the license (not Azure AD), and use that person as Solution Owner:
- Type in the first- and last name of the Solution Owner.
- Type in the Job Title of the Solution Owner.
- Type in the e-mail address and telephone number of the Solution Owner.
- To proceed, click the Continue button.
Note, both the person set in the Solution Info step and the solution owner will receive an e-mail once the provisioning of the WorkPoint 365 solution is completed.
Also note that using the method of inputting solution owner information will add that person to the license. The next time you create a new solution using the same license key, you will be able to select this user using the "Choose an already existing contact" option.
6.3. Confirm configuration
In this section you will be able to review the information you have provided before you let the installer start configuring and setting up your new WorkPoint 365 solution.
This section looks like the following:
You can review the information and choices you have provided during the previous steps.
This step also informs you what the installer will be doing during the installation process.
- When you are ready to begin provisioning the WorkPoint 365 solution, click the Start Configuration button.
The installation wizard now starts configuring your WorkPoint 365 solution. This may take up to 30 minutes or longer.
Once the provisioning of the WorkPoint 365 solution is complete, e-mails will be sent out, and the installer shows the following page:
- To go to the configured WorkPoint 365 solution, click the Configured site link.
- To return to the front page of the WorkPoint 365 Installer, click the Return button.
