In this article we will walk you through the steps for getting WorkPoint Express 365 running for your users.
If this is the first time that WorkPoint Express 365 has been run on your tenant, there is an important step required to grant a new Entra Application Registration for WorkPoint Express 365 the ability to communicate with Mail, SharePoint and WorkPoint services on the user's behalf. In most enterprise environments, the ability to install Enterprise Applications is restricted - requiring admin approval before the add-in can be used. Be sure to review the steps in Section 2 below.
1. Getting started
Once WorkPoint Express 365 has been deployed, you can use the following steps to open the task panel and start using it in Microsoft Outlook:
- In the "Mail" view, with an email message selected, open the "Apps" panel"
2. From the list of Add-Ins available, select "WorkPoint Express 365".

In this section we guide you through the first run experience of granting the WorkPoint Express 365 Add-In consent to access the Mail, SharePoint and WorkPoint Services on the user's behalf. Granting consent will require a user with the Application Administrator admin role on the tenant.
It's important to note, this consent step is only required once per tenant and, once approved, the approval applies for all users on the tenant. Once consent has been granted, users can simply open the WorkPoint Express 365 add-in panel and it will automatically authenticate and access WorkPoint services.
When the WorkPoint Express 365 panel is launched for the first time on a new tenant, the Add-In will request a new Entra Application Registration is created and authorized in the customer's tenant.
In most Enterprise environments, Tenant administrators use the Entra Consent and Permission settings to limit which users have the ability to install and consent to 3rd Party Enterprise Applications (such as WorkPoint Express 365) accessing services and data on their users' behalf.
In tenants that use a more restrictive consent and permissions mode, if an end-user has installed the WorkPoint Express 365 Add-In via the Microsoft App Store, on first launch depending on the current user's level of access, the consent dialog will appear in one of the two following formats.
Regular User Access
In this scenario, the user running WorkPoint Express 365 does not have the required Application Administrator role to grant the consent necessary - instead, they must request a tenant administrator grants consent on their behalf.
The user has three main options...
1. Interactive Admin Approval
If they have an admin account available, they can use the "Have an admin account" link in the consent dialog (shown above) to sign-in interactively and complete the consent process per the steps outlined in the Admin Consent section below.
2. Request Admin run Add-In Interactively
The current user can contact and request a tenant administrator installs and launches the WorkPoint Express 365 add-in interactively (per section 1). The admin will then be prompted for consent and approve interactively per the Admin Consent section below.
3. Request Admin consent using a consent link
If the current user does not have direct contact with an administrator, for example, this must requested via a support ticket or similar, they can simplify the consent request by providing a hyperlink for an administrator to use to review requested permissions and consent. The administrator can simply click on this link, review the consent and approve. They may then (optionally) use extended Entra security features to (for example), restrict which enterprise users have access to this application.
Provide the tenant administrators with the following hyperlink, making sure to replace the token "{tenant_id}" with the GUID of the M365 tenant.
https://login.microsoftonline.com/{tenant_id}/adminconsent?client_id=6aa890f6-1f83-4e1f-a5fe-5e20bdc5cc85&redirect_uri=https://workpoint365.com
Admin Consent
As a user with tenant admin privileges runs the WorkPoint Express Add-In or receives a consent link, they will be prompted to review and consent to the access that WorkPoint Express 365 requires
Note that in the consent dialog, all permissions are requested with the User Delegated level of access (example per #1 in screenshot below). This means that all actions and requests that WorkPoint Express 365 makes to either Mail, SharePoint or WorkPoint services are run as the current user and only with the permission and access they have to those respective services.
The Admin can review and, if acceptable, accept the permissions that WorkPoint Express 365 requires.
In the second screen, WorkPoint Express 365 is requesting access to the existing WorkPoint services on the tenant. Again, all access is Delegated.
Once steps 1 & 2 have been completed by an administrator, the WorkPoint Express 365 Application Registration has now been created and approved in the Tenant.
Optionally, the Application Registration for WorkPoint Express 365 can be located and viewed in the Entra Admin portal for the Tenant and should appear as follows:
On completion of the consent process, now all users in the tenant can simply activate and use WorkPoint Express 365 as per the user steps outlined below.
The WorkPoint Express 365 Task Panel should then appear in your Outlook Application. During initialization, WorkPoint will automatically authenticate with the SharePoint and WorkPoint services using your Outlook user account.

Tip: Click the "Pin" icon in the application header (shown as #3 above) to keep the WorkPoint Express Task Panel open when switching between Mail items in your Outlook inbox.
If this is the first time that the user has launched WorkPoint Express 365, if there are multiple WorkPoint solutions on their Microsoft 365 Tenant, they will be taken to the "Solution Switcher" view in WorkPoint Express 365 to select their WorkPoint solution. If there is only one solution on their tenant, or if they have previously used WorkPoint Express 365 in their Outlook profile - they will be taken directly to the selected solution home view as shown below.
Congratulations! WorkPoint Express 365 is now enabled in your Outlook Profile.
You can now start to use WorkPoint Express to navigate and interact with your WorkPoint solution in both your desktop and web Outlook experiences.
